Shopping for a shuffleboard table can be a bit overwhelming. After all, you have to make the right decision. No pressure, right? People always ask, “How much room does a shuffleboard table require.” That’s a bit ambiguous because that really depends on how much room you have.
Regulation size shuffleboard tables are 22 feet in length and 20 inches wide. Before you get ahead of yourself, measure out the dimensions where you plan to place it. Set the boundaries so you can visualize the table in your basement or game room. Envision yourself playing. Does anything feel awkward?
Think about elbow space, room for spectators, and distance from windows or other fragile items (for those of you with wild shots). I’d say you want to keep at least 2 feet clearance on both end of the table. This means that if you have a 16’ table, you will need a 20’ space that is free of obstructions.

For tables with electronic score keepers, make sure that you have clearance above the table. Think about fans, lighting, etc. Clearance is your primary concern when choosing dimensions. It doesn’t matter what size you want or have room for, it matters what size you have room to move into your home.

9 Foot Shuffleboard Tables – It is the most common table size for small space.
11 Foot Shuffleboard Tables – It is uncommon size and only available in couple models. If you do not have enough space for 12, then this is the size you can go with.
12 Foot Shuffleboard Tables – It is less intimidating to new players as well, encouraging patrons of all skill levels to play.
14 Foot Shuffleboard Tables – This is the threshold for small to mid-size tables. Shorter tables are easier to play on.
16 Foot Shuffleboard Tables – Very common mid-sized table. Anything above a 16’ table will have a similar feel to a full-length table.
18 Foot Shuffleboard Tables – These tables let you get a long slide and are available with climatic adjusters.
20 Foot Shuffleboard Tables – The next best thing to a full size shuffleboard table. Period.

If you’re tight on indoor space but still want a longer shuffleboard table, consider going for a weatherproof outdoor shuffleboard option if you have the available outdoor area. These tables come in sizes ranging from 9 to 22 feet, giving you plenty of choices to fit your needs while enjoying the great outdoors!
This might sound funny but it’s not the first time this has happened. I’ve heard of people ordering large items like shuffleboard tables, only to find that that they can’t get it in their house, apartment, or condo. What a headache this would be!
Break out the measuring tape and see how much space you have to bring it inside your house. This is especially pertinent if you don’t have a large sliding door that will make it easy to bring things inside. A standard door is 32” x 80” or 2’ 8” x 6’8”. Living in an apartment, you need to consider getting it in the elevator, going up stairs, and getting it around corners.
When going around corners, make sure that you can either stand the table up to bring it in the room OR have enough clearance around corners to get it into your place. If you’re table is 22’, you don’t want to measure a tight 22’ ½” fit. Don’t be that guy. In this case, you might want to step down to a 20 foot table to make sure it will fit inside your house.
If you’re dealing with confined spaces, such as narrow staircases or the need to fit into a freight elevator, opting for a two-piece playfield shuffleboard table is the way to go. 2-piece shuffleboard playfields come together very nicely and almost seamlessly. There are wooden dowels that secure the two piece playing field as one. Playability is identical to a 1 piece shuffleboard table and this may be a good option especially if you are planning on transporting it down your basement stairs or in the elevator.
This is a bit subjective. In shuffleboard heaven, the best shuffleboard table length is 22 feet. This isn’t possible in all cases but that’s fine, a small shuffleboard table is better than no shuffleboard table! The length of the table will affect the feel of the board. It’s always best to practice on a full-length shuffleboard table but you can still work on key skills with a smaller table.
